At a time when many people are planning weddings, a growing trend for those already married is to renew their vows. With the maturing of the relationship comes a need for an expression that says much of the people in the relationship.
At a time when more mature couples are looking to renew vows, it opens creative doors that many younger couples may not have considered. Such things as using colored diamonds or natural texture of the diamond to soften and add character to a setting can add a level of sophistication and more aid in reflecting more accurately the nature of the relationship. As an art form, modern ceremonial jewelry can at times be focused on the item rather than the people it is to represent. Unlike almost other art forms, those that are used in communicating the joining people hold a special place in most cultures.
When the relationship has been tempered by time, there is even more for the artist to work with. Barbara finds that exciting part of her work is the challenge of expressing the subtle complexity of the relationship in a way that is meaningful to the couple. Her handwork of the metal and range of materials provide her with an extensive palette by which she creates.
Barbara starts out by presenting samples of work and materials as she sits down to talk with the couple. Using the interaction as a means to guide her to a creative expression. The way people talk about themselves and react to the materials providing the focus for the design.
