The fiber art of David Nerwin is being featured at the Hudson Valley Arts Center. Fiber art has historically had strong roots both in functional and traditional fine art. It is the ability to add texture of the fiber to artistic expression that makes fiber art different. The surface works both light and sound differently in ways that can be used to alter the environment that it is displayed in.
Dramatic hand worked geometric forms, unique application of color and subtle texture created by needle work. David uses a variety of complex stitching techniques as the basis of building his geometric forms. The body of work presented focuses on cubist forms that rely on subtle variations of color to generate the sensation of depth and dimension. Whether used as art on a wall or used in floor screens as room dividers the work has diverse applications.
